Ingredients

4 large eggs

2 cups whole milk

1 cup granulated sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 tablespoon butter (for greasing the baking dish)

Optional: cinnamon for sprinkling on top

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 2-quart baking dish with butter and set aside.

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs until they are light and frothy.

Gradually add the sugar, whisking continuously until it is fully dissolved and the mixture is well blended.

Slowly pour in the whole milk while whisking to combine, ensuring a smooth mixture.

Add the vanilla extract, ground nutmeg, and salt. Mix well until all ingredients are incorporated.

Pour the custard mixture into the prepared baking dish.

Place the dish in a larger baking pan and fill the outer pan with hot water until it reaches halfway up the sides of the custard dish (this creates a water bath to ensure even cooking).

Bake in the preheated oven for about 45-55 minutes, or until the custard is set and a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.

If desired, sprinkle cinnamon on top before serving for added flavor.

Allow the baked custard to cool slightly before serving; it can be enjoyed warm or chilled.
