Ingredients

4 large buttery croissants

8 slices of deli ham (smoked or honey glazed)

8 slices of Swiss or cheddar cheese

2 tablespoons Dijon mustard

2 tablespoons mayonnaise

1 tablespoon honey (optional)

1 egg (for egg wash)

Freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Chopped fresh parsley or chives (for garnish)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Start by preheating your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Prepare the Croissants: Slice each croissant in half horizontally without cutting all the way through, creating a pocket for the filling.

Mix the Spread: In a small bowl, mix together the Dijon mustard, mayonnaise, and honey (if using) until well combined. This will add a nice tanginess to the croissants.

Assemble the Croissants: Spread the mustard-mayo mixture on the inside of each croissant. Start with the bottom half, then layer 2 slices of ham and 2 slices of cheese in each croissant. Close the croissant, pressing gently to hold everything inside.

Egg Wash: In a small bowl, whisk the egg and brush it generously over the tops of each croissant. This will give them a beautiful golden color as they bake.

Bake: Place the assembled croissants on the prepared baking sheet. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the croissants are golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Serve: Remove from the oven and let them cool for a minute. Garnish with freshly chopped parsley or chives before serving.

Enjoy: Serve warm and enjoy your delicious Baked Ham and Cheese Croissants!
