Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 tablespoon baking powder

½ teaspoon salt

½ cup granulated sugar

¾ cup buttermilk (or milk + 1 tbsp vinegar)

½ cup unsalted butter, melted

1 cup fresh blueberries (or frozen, if not in season)

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 tablespoon lemon zest (optional for added flavor)

1 tablespoon sugar for topping (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup.

Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and granulated sugar until well combined.

Combine Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, mix the buttermilk, melted butter, vanilla extract, and lemon zest (if using).

Create the Dough: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Stir gently until just combined—be careful not to overmix. The dough should be thick and slightly sticky.

Fold in Blueberries: Gently fold in the fresh blueberries until evenly distributed throughout the dough.

Prepare Baking Pan: In a small saucepan, melt an additional ½ cup of butter and pour it into the prepared baking sheet, swirling it to coat the bottom evenly.

Form Biscuits: Using a large spoon or ice cream scoop, drop generous portions of dough (about ¼ cup each) onto the melted butter in the baking sheet. Make sure they are spaced out but can touch slightly to rise together.

Sprinkle Topping (Optional): If desired, sprinkle a tablespoon of sugar over the tops of the dough mounds for extra sweetness and a nice crunch.

Bake: Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake for 15-18 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown and the biscuits are cooked through.

Cool and Serve: Allow the biscuits to cool for a few minutes, then serve them warm. These biscuits are perfect on their own or with a drizzle of honey or a smear of butter.
