Ingredients

For the Brownie Base:

1/2 cup (113g) unsalted butter

1 cup (200g) granulated sugar

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/3 cup (40g) unsweetened cocoa powder

1/2 cup (65g) all-purpose flour

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon baking powder

For the Caramel Swirl:

1 cup (200g) soft caramel candies, unwrapped

2 tablespoons heavy cream

Sea salt, for sprinkling (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x9-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.

Melt the Butter: In a medium saucepan over low heat, melt the butter. Once melted, remove from heat and stir in the granulated sugar until fully combined.

Mix the Wet Ingredients: Allow the butter-sugar mixture to cool slightly, then whisk in the eggs, one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract.

Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, sift together the cocoa powder, all-purpose flour, salt, and baking powder.

Combine Everything: Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.

Prepare the Caramel: In a small saucepan, combine the unwrapped caramel candies with the heavy cream. Heat over low heat, stirring constantly until the mixture is smooth and pourable. Remove from heat and set aside.

Layer the Brownie Mixture: Pour half of the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly. Drizzle half of the caramel mixture over the batter.

Add Remaining Batter and Caramel: Pour the remaining brownie batter on top of the caramel layer, and then dollop the rest of the caramel on top. Use a knife to gently swirl the caramel into the brownie batter for a marbled effect.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs (not wet batter).

Cool and Serve: Remove from the oven and let the brownies cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. If desired, sprinkle a pinch of sea salt on top for an added flavor contrast. Lift the brownies out using the parchment paper, let them cool completely on a wire rack, and then slice into squares.
