Brussels sprouts have a rich history that traces back to ancient Rome, where they were cultivated for their unique flavor and health benefits. Named after the Belgian city of Brussels, these small green vegetables gained prominence in Europe during the 18th century. They thrive in cool climates, which is why they are typically harvested in the fall and winter months. Cultivating Brussels sprouts requires careful attention, as they grow on tall stalks, producing small buds that resemble miniature cabbages.

Ingredients

1 lb Brussels sprouts, trimmed and halved

2 tablespoons olive oil

Salt and pepper, to taste

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1/4 cup cream cheese, softened

1/4 cup milk

1/2 teaspoon paprika

2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley (for garnish)

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).

In a large bowl, toss the halved Brussels sprouts with olive oil, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder until evenly coated.

Spread the Brussels sprouts in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Roast for 20-25 minutes, or until they are tender and lightly browned, stirring halfway through.

While the Brussels sprouts are roasting, prepare the cheesy sauce. In a medium saucepan over low heat, combine cream cheese, milk, shredded cheddar cheese, and Parmesan cheese. Stir continuously until the cheeses are melted and the sauce is smooth. Add paprika and mix well.

Once the Brussels sprouts are roasted, remove them from the oven and transfer them to a large bowl. Pour the cheesy sauce over the sprouts and mix until they are thoroughly coated.

Return the coated Brussels sprouts to the baking sheet, spreading them out evenly. Bake for an additional 10 minutes until bubbly and golden.

Remove from the oven and garnish with fresh parsley before serving.
