Ingredients

1 lb ground beef

1/2 lb ground pork

1 cup breadcrumbs

1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (for stuffing)

1 large egg

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 tsp onion powder

1 tsp dried oregano

1/2 tsp salt

1/4 tsp black pepper

1 jar (24 oz) marinara sauce

4 sub rolls

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (for topping)

Fresh basil leaves (for garnish)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Begin by preheating your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Make the Meatball Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan, minced garlic, onion powder, dried oregano, salt, black pepper, and the egg. Use your hands to mix everything until just combined; avoid over-mixing.

Stuff the Meatballs: Take about 2 tablespoons of the meat mixture, flatten it in your hand, and place 1 teaspoon of shredded mozzarella cheese in the center. Gently fold the meat around the cheese to form a ball, ensuring the cheese is completely enclosed. Repeat with the remaining mixture to make about 12 meatballs.

Bake the Meatballs: Place the stuffed meatballs on the prepared baking sheet. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until cooked through and golden brown on the outside.

Heat the Sauce: While the meatballs are baking, heat the marinara sauce in a medium saucepan over medium heat until simmering.

Prepare the Subs: Once the meatballs are done, remove them from the oven. Cut the sub rolls lengthwise without cutting all the way through. Place two meatballs in each sub, spoon over some marinara sauce, and top with shredded mozzarella cheese.

Broil the Subs: Place the loaded subs back on the baking sheet and switch the oven to broil. Broil them for 2-3 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly. Keep a close watch to prevent burning.

Serve: Carefully remove the subs from the oven. Garnish with fresh basil leaves before serving. Enjoy your warm, cheesy stuffed meatball subs!
