Ingredients

1 lb ground beef (80% lean)

1/4 cup breadcrumbs

1/4 cup milk

1 large egg

1 tsp Worcestershire sauce

1 tsp garlic powder

Salt and pepper, to taste

2 tbsp olive oil

2 large onions, thinly sliced

2 cups beef broth

1 tbsp soy sauce

1 tbsp cornstarch mixed with 2 tbsp water (for thickening)

Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until uniform, but do not overwork the meat.

Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape them into patties, about 3/4 inch thick.

Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the hamburger patties and cook for 4-5 minutes on each side or until nicely browned and cooked through. Remove the patties to a plate and cover to keep warm.

In the same skillet, add the sliced onions and sauté until they are soft and browned, about 10-12 minutes.

Pour in the beef broth and soy sauce, scraping up any browned bits from the pan. Bring the mixture to a simmer.

Stir in the cornstarch mixture to thicken the gravy. Let it cook for another 2-3 minutes until the gravy reaches your desired consistency.

Return the hamburger patties to the skillet, spooning the gravy over them. Allow them to simmer for an additional 3-4 minutes to heat through and absorb the flavors.

Serve the hamburger steaks on a plate, generously topped with the savory onion gravy, and garnish with freshly chopped parsley.
