Ingredients

For the Grits:

1 cup stone-ground grits

4 cups water (or chicken broth for added flavor)

1 cup whole milk

1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese

2 tablespoons unsalted butter

Salt and freshly cracked black pepper, to taste

For the Shrimp:

1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined

4 slices of bacon, chopped

1 small onion, diced

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved

1/2 cup chicken broth

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1 teaspoon hot sauce (adjust to taste)

2 green onions, thinly sliced (for garnish)

Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

Prepare the Grits:

    - In a medium saucepan, bring 4 cups of water (or chicken broth) to a boil. Slowly whisk in the grits, stirring constantly to prevent lumps.

      - Reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally until the grits are thick and creamy.

        - Stir in the milk, cheddar cheese, butter, salt, and pepper. Keep warm while you prepare the shrimp.

          Cook the Bacon:

            - In a large skillet, cook the chopped bacon over medium heat until crispy. Remove the bacon and drain on paper towels, leaving the drippings in the skillet.

              Sauté the Veggies:

                - In the same skillet, add the diced onion and cook until translucent, about 3-4 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1 minute until fragrant.

                  Add the Shrimp:

                    - Toss the shrimp into the skillet and season with salt and pepper. Cook for about 2-3 minutes or until they start to turn pink.

                      Combine Flavors:

                        - Stir in the halved cherry tomatoes, chicken broth, Worcestershire sauce, and hot sauce. Let it simmer for about 5 minutes until the shrimp are fully cooked and the flavors meld together.

                          Serve:

                            - Spoon the creamy grits onto plates or into bowls, and top generously with the shrimp mixture. Garnish with crispy bacon, sliced green onions, and chopped parsley.

                              Enjoy!

                                - Dig into your mouthwatering classic shrimp and grits, savoring the rich flavors of the South!
