Ingredients

8 oz (225 g) pasta of choice (penne or fettuccine recommended)

2 cups fresh broccoli florets

2 tablespoons olive oil

4 cloves garlic, minced

1 cup heavy cream

1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Zest and juice of 1 lemon

Fresh basil or parsley, for garnish

Instructions

Cook the Pasta: In a large pot of boiling salted water, cook the pasta according to package instructions until al dente. In the last 2-3 minutes of cooking, add the broccoli florets. Drain the pasta and broccoli, reserving about 1 cup of pasta water.

Sauté Garlic: In the same pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute. Be careful not to burn the garlic.

Make the Sauce: Reduce the heat to low and pour in the heavy cream. Stir gently, allowing it to warm up. Gradually add the Parmesan cheese, stirring continuously until the cheese has melted and the sauce is smooth.

Combine: Add the cooked pasta and broccoli to the sauce. Toss everything together until the pasta and broccoli are well coated with the creamy sauce. If the mixture is too thick, add a bit of the reserved pasta water to reach your desired consistency.

Season: Stir in red pepper flakes (if using), lemon zest, and lemon juice. Season with salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste.

Serve: Plate the creamy broccoli pasta and garnish with fresh basil or parsley. Serve immediately with extra Parmesan on the side if desired.
