Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon active dry yeast

1 teaspoon sugar

3/4 teaspoon salt

1 tablespoon olive oil

3/4 cup warm water (110°F/43°C)

3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

3 cloves garlic, minced

2 teaspoons dried oregano

1 teaspoon dried basil

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)

Fresh parsley, finely chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

Activate the Yeast: In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Allow it to sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.

Prepare the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture and olive oil. Stir with a wooden spoon until a dough starts to form.

Knead the Dough: Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes, until the dough is smooth and elastic. Place it in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm area for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Preheat the Oven: About 15 minutes before the dough is ready, preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Shape the Breadsticks: Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release the air. Divide the dough into 12 equal portions and roll each portion into a long, thin stick (about 10-12 inches long). Place the breadsticks on the prepared baking sheet.

Prepare the Garlic Herb Topping: In a small bowl, mix together the melted butter, minced garlic, oregano, basil, garlic powder, and crushed red pepper flakes (if using). Brush this mixture generously over each breadstick.

Bake: Bake the breadsticks in the preheated oven for 15-18 minutes, or until they are golden brown and crispy on the outside.

Garnish and Serve: Remove the breadsticks from the oven. Sprinkle with fresh chopped parsley for added flavor and serve warm.
