1 cup unsalted butter (2 sticks)

2 cups granulated sugar

4 large eggs

1 tsp vanilla extract

1 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1/4 tsp salt

For the French Silk Topping:

1/2 cup unsalted butter

1 cup powdered sugar

1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

2 large eggs (at room temperature)

1 tsp vanilla extract

Dark chocolate shavings (for garnish)

Instructions
 

Prepare the Brownies:

    - Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking pan and set aside.

      - In a large saucepan over medium heat, melt the 1 cup of butter. Once melted, remove from heat and stir in granulated sugar.

        - Allow the mixture to cool briefly, then mix in the eggs one at a time, stirring well after each addition.

          - Stir in the vanilla extract. In another bowl, combine flour, cocoa powder, and salt. Gradually blend this dry mixture into the wet ingredients until fully incorporated. If desired, fold in the chocolate chips.

            - Pour the brownie batter into the prepared pan, spreading it evenly. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs. Let cool completely in the pan.

              Prepare the French Silk Topping:

                - In a medium bowl, beat the 1/2 cup of butter with a hand mixer until creamy.
