Ingredients

1 lb ground chicken

1 tablespoon olive oil

1 small onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 green bell pepper, finely chopped

1 tablespoon Cajun seasoning

1 teaspoon smoked paprika

1 teaspoon brown sugar

1 can (8 oz) tomato sauce

2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

1 tablespoon Dijon mustard

Salt and pepper, to taste

4 burger buns (preferably toasted)

Optional toppings: sliced pickles, shredded lettuce, sliced tomatoes

Instructions

Preparation: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and bell pepper, and sauté for about 3-4 minutes until softened.

Cooking the Chicken: Add the minced garlic and ground chicken to the skillet. Cook, breaking up the chicken with a spatula, for about 5-7 minutes until it's fully cooked and no longer pink.

Flavor Infusion: Stir in the Cajun seasoning, smoked paprika, and brown sugar. Mix well to ensure the ground chicken is evenly coated with the spices.

Saucy Goodness: Pour in the tomato sauce, Worcestershire sauce, and Dijon mustard. Stir to combine all ingredients and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer. Let it cook for an additional 5-10 minutes, stirring occasionally until the sauce thickens slightly. Taste and adjust salt and pepper as needed.

Assembly: Remove from heat. Spoon generous amounts of the Cajun chicken mixture onto the toasted burger buns. Add optional toppings like sliced pickles, shredded lettuce, or sliced tomatoes for added crunch.

Serve: Enjoy your spicy Cajun chicken sloppy joes while they’re hot!
