Ingredients
  

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 cup granulated sugar

1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1 tsp baking soda

1/2 tsp baking powder

1/4 tsp salt

1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

2 large eggs

1 cup buttermilk

1 tsp vanilla extract

1 cup pitted and chopped fresh cherries (or frozen, thawed)

1/2 cup chocolate chips (semi-sweet or dark)

Optional: powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions
 

Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.

    Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Whisk until well mixed.

      Wet Ingredients: In another bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy. Add the eggs, buttermilk, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth.

        Combine Mixtures: Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing gently with a spatula until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.

          Fold in Cherries and Chocolate: Carefully fold in the chopped cherries and chocolate chips into the batter.

            Bake: Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and spread it evenly. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

              Cool: Once baked, remove from the oven and allow the cake to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Then, transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
