Ingredients

12 oz ziti pasta

15 oz ricotta cheese

2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

3 cups marinara sauce (store-bought or homemade)

1 large egg

1 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning

1 teaspoon garlic powder

Salt and pepper to taste

Fresh basil leaves for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Cook the Pasta: In a large pot of salted boiling water, cook the ziti pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

Prepare the Cheese Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, 1 cup of the mozzarella cheese, Parmesan cheese, egg, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.

Combine with Marinara: In a separate bowl, mix the cooked ziti with 2 cups of marinara sauce. Stir until the pasta is well coated.

Layer the Dish: In a greased 9x13 inch baking dish, spread half of the ziti mixture at the bottom. Dollop half of the ricotta mixture over the ziti, and then spoon in half of the remaining marinara sauce. Repeat the layers with the remaining ziti, ricotta mixture, and marinara sauce.

Top with Mozzarella: Sprinkle the remaining mozzarella cheese evenly over the top.

Bake: Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.

Garnish and Serve: Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Garnish with fresh basil leaves if desired, then serve hot.
