Ingredients

1 sheet of puff pastry (thawed)

8 oz cream cheese (softened)

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1 tsp vanilla extract

1 egg (beaten, for egg wash)

1/4 cup powdered sugar

1-2 tbsp milk (for glaze)

Optional: fresh berries or fruit preserves for topping

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

On a lightly floured surface, roll out the thawed puff pastry sheet into a rectangle about 1/8 inch thick. Cut the pastry into 4 squares.

In a medium bowl, mix together the softened cream cheese, granulated sugar, and vanilla until smooth and creamy.

Place a generous tablespoon of the cream cheese mixture in the center of each pastry square.

Fold the corners of each pastry square towards the middle, pinching them together to seal the filling inside. Brush the tops with the beaten egg for a golden finish.

Cut a few small slits on top of each Danish to allow steam to escape.

Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the pastries are golden brown and puffed up.

While the danishes are baking, you can make the glaze by whisking together powdered sugar and milk until smooth. Adjust the amount of milk for desired thickness.

Once the danishes are out of the oven, let them cool slightly before drizzling with the glaze. Add fresh berries or a dollop of fruit preserves on top if desired.

Serve warm and enjoy your delicious, flaky breakfast cheese danish!
