Instructions

Make the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, yeast, and salt. Mix until well combined. In a separate bowl, whisk together the warm milk, melted butter, and egg. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until a dough forms.

Knead the Dough: Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes, until smooth and elastic. If the dough is sticky, add a little more flour.

Let the Dough Rise: Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place until it has doubled in size, about 30 minutes.

Prepare the Filling: While the dough is rising, mix the softened butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg (if using) in a small bowl until well combined. Set aside.

Roll the Dough: After the dough has risen, punch it down and turn it out onto a lightly floured surface. Roll it out into a rectangle about 12x16 inches.

Add the Filling: Spread the cinnamon filling evenly over the rolled-out dough, leaving a small border around the edges.

Form the Rolls: Starting from the long edge, tightly roll the dough into a log, then pinch the edges to seal. Cut the log into 12 equal slices.

Final Rise: Arrange the rolls in a greased baking dish. Cover with a towel and let rise for another 15-20 minutes while the oven preheats to 375°F (190°C).

Bake: Once preheated, bake the rolls for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.

Make the Frosting: While the rolls are baking, beat the cream cheese and butter together until smooth. Gradually add the powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and milk, mixing until creamy and spreadable.

Frost & Serve: Once the rolls are out of the oven, let them cool slightly before spreading the cream cheese frosting over the top. Serve warm and enjoy!
