For the Donuts:

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 cup granulated sugar

1 tablespoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 cup whole milk

1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

2 large eggs

1/4 cup freshly brewed espresso (cooled)

For the Espresso Glaze:

1 1/2 cups powdered sugar

2 tablespoons freshly brewed espresso (cooled)

1 tablespoon milk (or more for desired consistency)

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Optional Toppings:

Chocolate shavings

Crushed espresso beans

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a donut pan or use a silicone mold.

Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.

Combine Wet Ingredients: In another bowl, whisk together the melted butter, eggs, cooled espresso, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.

Combine Mixtures: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, and gently fold until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; a few lumps are okay.

Fill the Pan: Using a piping bag or a spoon, fill each donut cavity about 2/3 full with batter.

Bake the Donuts: Bake the donuts in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes or until they are golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Cool the Donuts: Remove the donuts from the oven and allow them to cool in the pan for about 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Prepare the Glaze: In a medium bowl, combine the powdered sugar, cooled espresso, milk, and vanilla extract. Whisk until smooth. If the glaze is too thick, add a little more milk until you reach your desired consistency.

Glaze the Donuts: Once the donuts are completely cooled, dip the tops in the espresso glaze, letting any excess drip off. Place the glazed donuts back on the wire rack.

Add Optional Toppings: If desired, sprinkle chocolate shavings or crushed espresso beans on top of the glaze before it sets.

Serve and Enjoy: Let the glaze set for about 15 minutes. Enjoy your delightful homemade espresso glazed donuts with a cup of coffee!
