Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1/4 cup sugar

1 tablespoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed

1/2 cup heavy cream

1 large egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Additional heavy cream for brushing

Extra sugar for sprinkling on top (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Combine Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt until well combined.

Cut in Butter: Add the cubed cold butter to the flour mixture. Using a pastry cutter or your fingertips, work the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Mix Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the heavy cream, egg, and vanilla extract until smooth.

Combine Mixtures: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry mixture and stir with a spatula until just combined. Be careful not to overmix. Gently fold in the chocolate chips.

Shape the Dough: Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Knead gently a few times until it comes together. Pat the dough into a thick disk, about 1-inch thick.

Cut the Scones: Using a sharp knife or a pizza cutter, cut the disk into 8 wedges. Place the wedges on the prepared baking sheet, ensuring they are spaced apart.

Brush and Sprinkle: Brush the tops of the scones with a little heavy cream for a golden finish, and sprinkle with extra sugar if desired.

Bake: Bake the scones in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until they are lightly golden and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Cool and Serve: Remove the scones from the oven and let them cool on a wire rack for a few minutes. Serve warm, perhaps with a dollop of clotted cream or butter.
