Ingredients

1 medium head of green cabbage, chopped

6 strips of bacon, chopped

1 large onion, thinly sliced

4 cloves of garlic, minced

1 teaspoon salt (or to taste)

½ teaspoon black pepper (or to taste)

1 tablespoon olive oil (optional)

1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)

Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

Cook the Bacon: In a large skillet, over medium heat, add the chopped bacon. Cook until crispy, about 5-7 minutes. Remove the bacon using a slotted spoon and place on a paper towel to drain excess grease. Reserve about 2 tablespoons of bacon grease in the skillet.

Sauté Onions: In the same skillet with the reserved bacon grease, add the sliced onions. Sauté for 3-4 minutes, until they become translucent and slightly caramelized.

Add Garlic: Stir in the minced garlic to the onions and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes, until fragrant. Be careful not to burn the garlic.

Cook the Cabbage: Increase the heat to medium-high and add the chopped cabbage to the skillet. Toss well to coat with the onion and garlic mixture. If the skillet seems dry, add a tablespoon of olive oil.

Season: Sprinkle salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using) over the cabbage. Stir well and cook for about 10-12 minutes, or until the cabbage is tender and slightly browned, stirring occasionally.

Combine Ingredients: Once the cabbage is cooked, add the crispy bacon back to the skillet. Toss everything together to combine and heat through for an additional 2-3 minutes.

Garnish and Serve: Remove from heat, garnish with fresh parsley, and adjust any seasoning as necessary. Serve hot as a delicious side dish or a satisfying main course!
