Ingredients

14 oz firm tofu, pressed and cut into 1-inch cubes

1 cup cornstarch

½ cup vegetable oil (for frying)

2 tablespoons soy sauce

2 tablespoons sriracha sauce (or more for extra heat)

1 tablespoon rice vinegar

1 tablespoon honey or agave syrup

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon ginger powder (or 1 tablespoon freshly grated ginger)

1 tablespoon sesame oil

1 tablespoon sesame seeds (for garnish)

2 green onions, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

Prepare Tofu: Start by pressing the tofu to remove excess moisture. Wrap it in a clean kitchen towel and place a heavy object on top for about 20 minutes. Once pressed, cut the tofu into 1-inch cubes.

Coat Tofu: In a shallow bowl, add the cornstarch. Dredge each tofu cube in the cornstarch, ensuring all sides are coated evenly. Shake off any excess.

Heat Oil: In a large skillet or wok, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Once hot, carefully add the coated tofu cubes to the oil in a single layer, ensuring they don’t overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 5-7 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy. You may need to do this in batches.

Make the Glaze: While the tofu is frying, prepare the spicy glaze. In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, sriracha, rice vinegar, honey, garlic powder, ginger powder, and sesame oil until well combined.

Glaze the Tofu: Once the tofu is crispy, reduce the heat to medium and pour the spicy glaze over the fried tofu. Gently toss the tofu in the glaze for about 2-3 minutes, allowing it to absorb the flavors and become shiny.

Garnish and Serve: Remove the tofu from heat and transfer it to a serving dish. Sprinkle the tofu with sesame seeds and chopped green onions for garnish. Serve hot alongside steamed rice or a fresh salad.
