Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 tablespoon baking powder

1 teaspoon salt

1 tablespoon sugar

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)

1 1/2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese

1 cup diced ham (cooked)

1 cup buttermilk

1/2 cup unsalted butter (melted)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish with cooking spray or butter.

Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, sugar, and garlic powder (if using).

Combine Cheese and Ham: Add the shredded cheddar cheese and diced ham to the dry ingredients, tossing gently to coat.

Stir in Buttermilk: Pour in the buttermilk, and mix gently until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; a few lumps are fine.

Prepare the Butter Swim: In the greased baking dish, pour the melted butter evenly over the bottom.

Transfer the Biscuit Dough: Spoon the biscuit mixture over the melted butter, spreading it out evenly but not smoothing it out completely.

Bake: Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Cool and Serve: Let the biscuits cool in the pan for about 5 minutes, then cut into squares. Serve warm and enjoy the buttery, cheesy goodness!
