Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon instant yeast

1 teaspoon sugar

1 teaspoon salt

¾ cup warm water (about 110°F or 43°C)

2 tablespoons plain yogurt

2 tablespoons olive oil (plus extra for brushing)

3-4 cloves garlic, minced

2 tablespoons fresh cilantro, chopped (for garnish)

Optional: 1 teaspoon nigella seeds or sesame seeds for topping

Instructions

Prepare the Dough:

In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, instant yeast, sugar, and salt. Mix well. In a separate bowl, mix the warm water with the yogurt and olive oil, then add this mixture to the dry ingredients. Stir to combine until a rough dough starts to form.

      Knead the Dough:

Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and knead gently for about 8-10 minutes until it becomes soft, elastic, and slightly sticky. If too sticky, add a little more flour as needed.

          Let it Rise:

Lightly grease a bowl and place the dough inside, covering it with a damp cloth or plastic wrap. Allow it to rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours or until it has doubled in size.

              Prepare the Garlic Butter:

In a small bowl, mix the minced garlic with 2 tablespoons of olive oil. Set aside. This will be used for brushing the naan later.

                  Shape the Naan:

Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release any air bubbles. Divide the dough into 5-6 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball, then use a rolling pin to flatten each ball into an oval or round shape, about ¼ inch thick.

                      Cook the Naan:

Preheat a cast-iron skillet or frying pan over medium-high heat. Once hot, place one naan on the skillet and cook for about 1-2 minutes, until bubbles form on the surface and the bottom is golden brown. Flip it over and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes.

                          Add Garlic Butter:

Once cooked, brush the top with the garlic oil mixture and sprinkle with fresh cilantro and seeds, if using. Repeat with the remaining pieces of dough.

                              Serve Warm:

Serve your homemade garlic naan warm with your favorite curry or dip in extra garlic butter for an indulgent treat!
