Ingredients

4 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast

1/2 teaspoon salt

3/4 cup whole milk

1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

1 large egg

1/4 cup honey

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 cup brown sugar

1/2 cup raisins (optional)

1 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)

2 tablespoons milk (for glaze)

1 tablespoon honey (for glaze)

Instructions

Prepare the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of flour, granulated sugar, yeast, and salt. Stir until well mixed.

Warm the Milk: In a small saucepan, gently heat the milk until warm (not boiling), then stir in the melted butter and honey. Allow the mixture to cool slightly before adding it to the flour mixture.

Mix Ingredients: Add the egg and vanilla extract to the flour mix, followed by the warm milk mixture. Stir until combined.

Knead the Dough: Gradually add in the remaining flour (1-2 cups) until a soft dough forms. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes, or until smooth and elastic.

First Rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

Prepare Filling: In a small bowl, combine brown sugar and cinnamon. If using raisins, set them aside.

Shape the Buns: After the dough has risen, punch it down and turn it out onto a lightly floured surface. Roll the dough into a rectangle (about 12x18 inches). Spread melted butter over the surface and sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly, then add the raisins if desired.

Roll and Cut: Roll the dough tightly from the long side to form a log. Cut the log into 12 equal pieces and place them in a greased baking dish.

Second Rise: Cover the dish with a towel and let the buns rise for another 30-45 minutes, until they’ve puffed up.

Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Bake: Bake the buns for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown on top. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly.

Prepare Glaze: In a medium bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and honey until smooth. Drizzle the glaze over the warm buns.

Serve and Enjoy: Allow the glaze to set before serving. These honey buns are best enjoyed warm, but they can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
