Ingredients

1 cup water

1/2 cup unsalted butter

1 cup all-purpose flour

1/4 teaspoon salt

4 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for flavoring the cream)

1 cup heavy whipping cream (for filling)

1/4 cup powdered sugar (for filling)

Optional: melted chocolate or caramel for drizzling

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the water and butter. Stir until the butter melts completely.

Add the salt and flour all at once, stirring continuously until the mixture forms a ball and pulls away from the sides of the pan (about 1-2 minutes). Remove from heat.

Allow the mixture to cool for a few minutes. Then, add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition until the dough is smooth and glossy.

          Stir in the vanilla extract.

Spoon or pipe the dough into small mounds (about 1-2 inches) on the prepared baking sheet, spaced about 2 inches apart.

Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until puffs are golden brown and sound hollow when tapped. Avoid opening the oven door during baking to prevent deflation.

Once baked, turn off the oven, crack the door open, and let the puffs cool in the oven for about 10 minutes.

While the puffs are cooling, whip the heavy cream and powdered sugar together until stiff peaks form.

Once the puffs are cooled, gently poke a hole in the side of each one using a skewer or a sharp knife.

Fill a piping bag fitted with a small round tip with the whipped cream mixture, and pipe it into each puff until they are full.

Optionally, drizzle melted chocolate or caramel over the filled cream puffs before serving.

Prep Time: 20 minutes | Total Time: 1 hour | Servings: 12-15 cream puffs
