Ingredients

2 cans of refrigerated crescent roll dough

1 pound ground Italian sausage

1 cup diced bell peppers (red and green)

1 cup diced onion

2 cups marinara sauce

1 cup ricotta cheese

1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese

1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

½ teaspoon garlic powder

Salt and pepper to taste

Fresh basil for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.

In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground Italian sausage until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat.

Add the diced bell peppers and onions to the skillet and sauté for an additional 3-4 minutes until softened.

Stir in the marinara sauce, ricotta cheese, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are combined and heated through.

On a clean surface, unroll one can of crescent roll dough and press it into the bottom of the prepared baking dish, making sure to cover the bottom completely.

Pour the sausage and cheese mixture evenly over the crescent roll layer.

Unroll the second can of crescent roll dough and layout the triangles over the filling, or you can pinch them together like a blanket for a more even layer.

Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese on top of the crescent rolls.

Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until the crescent dough is golden brown and the cheese is bubbling.

Allow to cool for 5 minutes before slicing. Garnish with fresh basil if desired, and serve warm.
