Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 tablespoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup unsalted butter, chilled and cubed

1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese

1/2 cup cooked bacon, chopped (about 6 strips)

1/4 cup pure maple syrup

3/4 cup buttermilk

1 tablespoon fresh chives, chopped (optional for garnish)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until combined.

Cut in Butter: Add the chilled, cubed butter to the flour mixture. Using a pastry cutter or your fingers, work the butter into the flour until it resembles coarse crumbs.

Add Cheese and Bacon: Gently fold in the shredded cheddar cheese and chopped bacon until evenly distributed in the mixture.

Combine Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, mix together the maple syrup and buttermilk.

Form the Dough: Pour the buttermilk mixture into the flour mixture. Stir until just combined; do not overmix. The dough will be sticky.

Shape the Biscuits: Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface. Pat it into a rectangle about 1-inch thick. Using a biscuit cutter or a knife, cut out biscuits.

Bake: Arrange the biscuits on the prepared baking sheet, leaving some space between them. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until they are golden brown and puffed up.

Serve: Remove from the oven, allow to cool slightly, and serve warm. Optional: drizzle extra maple syrup on top and sprinkle with fresh chives for an added touch.
