Ingredients

2 large apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp work best)

1 sheet of puff pastry (thawed)

1 tablespoon lemon juice

1 teaspoon cinnamon

2 tablespoons granulated sugar

1 tablespoon butter (melted)

Flour (for dusting)

Powdered sugar (for dusting, optional)

Almonds or walnuts (chopped, optional, for garnish)

Instructions

Preheat the oven: Begin by preheating your oven to 375°F (190°C) and prepare a muffin tin by lightly greasing it or lining it with muffin liners.

Prepare the apples: Core and slice the apples in half. Using a mandoline or a sharp knife, carefully slice the apples into thin wedges (about 1/8 inch thick). Toss the apple slices in a bowl with lemon juice, cinnamon, and granulated sugar. Microwave the mixture for 2-3 minutes until the apples are slightly softened and pliable.

Roll out the puff pastry: Lightly flour your work surface and roll out the puff pastry to smooth it out, ensuring it’s about 1/8 inch thick. Cut the pastry into rectangles, approximately 3 inches wide and 6 inches long.

Layer the apple slices: Take the prepared apple slices and place them on the edge of the puff pastry rectangle, overlapping them slightly. Continue layering until the entire edge is covered with apple slices.

Fold and roll: Fold the bottom part of the pastry up over the apple slices so that just the tips of the apples are showing, creating a rose shape. Starting from one end, gently roll the pastry up into a tight spiral, encasing the apple slices.

Place in the muffin tin: Carefully place the rolled pastries into the prepared muffin tin. Brush the tops with melted butter for a beautiful golden finish.

Bake: Bake the mini apple roses in the preheated oven for about 25-30 minutes or until the pastry is puffed and golden brown.

Cool and serve: Allow the mini apple roses to cool for a few minutes in the muffin tin before transferring them to a wire rack. Dust with powdered sugar and garnish with chopped almonds or walnuts if desired. Serve warm or at room temperature.
