Ingredients

1 loaf of crusty French bread, cut into 1-inch slices

6 large eggs

2 cups whole milk

1/2 cup heavy cream

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1 tablespoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon nutmeg (optional)

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup maple syrup (for serving)

Powdered sugar (for dusting)

Fresh berries (for garnish)

Instructions

Prepare the Baking Dish: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with butter or non-stick spray.

Arrange the Bread: Place the slices of French bread in the prepared baking dish, overlapping them slightly for even coating.

Mix the Custard: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, nutmeg (if using), and salt until well combined.

Soak the Bread: Pour the custard mixture evenly over the bread slices, making sure all of the bread is well-soaked. You can gently press down on the bread with a spatula if some pieces are floating.

Chill (Optional): For best results, cover the dish with plastic wrap and let it sit in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes or overnight. If you're in a hurry, you can skip this step.

Bake: Remove the plastic wrap (if used) and bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the custard is set and the top is golden brown.

Serve: Let it cool for about 5 minutes before slicing. Dust with powdered sugar, drizzle with maple syrup, and add fresh berries on top.

Enjoy!: Serve warm and enjoy a no-fuss, delicious breakfast that’s sure to impress!
