Ingredients

For the Orange Rolls:

4 cups all-purpose flour

1/4 cup granulated sugar

2 1/4 teaspoons (1 packet) active dry yeast

1 cup whole milk, warmed to about 110°F

1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

1 large egg

Zest of 1 large orange

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 teaspoon salt

For the Orange Filling:

1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened

1/2 cup brown sugar, packed

2 tablespoons orange juice

1 tablespoon orange zest

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

For the Warm Sour Cream Butter Glaze:

1/2 cup sour cream

1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

1 cup powdered sugar

1 tablespoon orange juice

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

A pinch of salt

Instructions

Prepare the Dough:

In a small bowl, combine the warm milk and sugar. Sprinkle the yeast over the top and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together 2 cups of flour and salt. Add the melted butter, egg, orange zest, vanilla extract, and the yeast mixture. Stir until combined.

Gradually add the remaining flour, one cup at a time, until a soft dough forms. Knead on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.

          First Rise:

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

              Prepare the Filling:

In a small bowl, mix together the softened butter, brown sugar, orange juice, orange zest, and cinnamon until smooth and creamy.

                  Shape the Rolls:

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out into a rectangle measuring about 16x12 inches on a floured surface. Spread the filling evenly over the surface of the dough, leaving a small border.

Starting from one long side, tightly roll the dough into a log. Cut the log into 12 equal pieces and place them in a greased 9x13 inch baking dish.

                        Second Rise:

Cover the dish with plastic wrap or a kitchen towel and let the rolls rise for another 30-45 minutes until puffy.

                            Bake the Rolls:

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.

                                Make the Glaze:

While the rolls are baking, in a medium saucepan, combine the sour cream, melted butter, powdered sugar, orange juice, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Stir over low heat until warm and smooth.

                                    Glaze and Serve:

Once the rolls are done baking, drizzle the warm sour cream butter glaze generously over them. Allow the glaze to soak in for a couple of minutes before serving.

Prep Time: 20 minutes | Total Time: 2 hours | Servings: 12 rolls
