Ingredients

1 loaf of brioche bread, cut into 1-inch cubes

6 large eggs

2 cups whole milk

1 cup heavy cream

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1 tablespoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 cup blueberries (fresh or frozen, if using frozen, do not thaw)

1 cup maple syrup (plus more for serving)

Powdered sugar, for serving (optional)

Butter (for greasing the baking dish)

Instructions

Prepare the Baking Dish: Generously grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with butter to prevent sticking.

Arrange the Bread: Place the cubed brioche bread into the prepared baking dish, spreading it evenly across the bottom. Sprinkle the blueberries on top, distributing them evenly among the bread cubes.

Mix the Custard: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until fully combined and frothy.

Pour the Mixture: Carefully pour the egg mixture over the bread and blueberries, ensuring all the bread is soaked. Gently press down on the bread cubes with a spatula to ensure they absorb the custard.

Cover and Refrigerate: Cover the baking dish tightly with plastic wrap or aluminum foil and refrigerate the casserole for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight. This allows the bread to fully absorb the custard.

Preheat the Oven: The next morning, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Bake the Casserole: Remove the casserole from the refrigerator and uncover it. Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.

Serve: Let the casserole cool for about 10 minutes before serving. Drizzle warm maple syrup on top and dust with powdered sugar if desired. Slice into squares and enjoy hot!
