Peaches are undoubtedly the star of this dish, and the choice between fresh and canned can significantly affect the final flavor. Fresh peaches bring a bright, juicy flavor and a delightful texture that can elevate your dump cake. When selecting fresh peaches, look for fruits that yield slightly to pressure and have a sweet aroma. Ripe peaches should have a rich golden color, and you may want to avoid any that are overly bruised or have blemishes.

Ingredients

2 cans (15 oz each) sliced peaches in syrup or fresh peaches (about 4 cups, peeled and sliced)

1 cup granulated sugar (adjust based on peach sweetness)

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1 box (15 oz) yellow cake mix

1 stick (1/2 cup) unsalted butter, melted

1 cup brown sugar, packed

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)

Vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for serving

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Prepare Peaches: If using fresh peaches, peel and slice them. In a mixing bowl, combine the peaches with granulated sugar and cinnamon, stirring gently until the peaches are well-coated.

Layer Ingredients: In a 9x13 inch baking dish, spread the peach mixture evenly on the bottom.

Add Cake Mix: Evenly sprinkle the entire box of yellow cake mix over the peaches. Do not stir.

Drizzle Butter: Pour the melted butter evenly over the cake mix. It’s okay if some areas remain dry; this will create a lovely texture.

Add Brown Sugar: Sprinkle the packed brown sugar evenly on top of the buttered cake mix.

Add Nuts (optional): If you’re using nuts, sprinkle them on top for an added crunch.

Bake: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for about 45 to 55 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the edges are bubbly.

Serve: Let the cake cool slightly before serving. Serve warm with a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream on top.
