Ingredients

4 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) instant yeast

1 teaspoon salt

1 cup whole milk, warmed to 110°F (43°C)

1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted, plus more for brushing

1 large egg

1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened (for filling)

Optional: sea salt flakes for topping

Instructions

In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of the flour, sugar, instant yeast, and salt. Whisk together until well-blended.

In a separate bowl, mix the warm milk, melted butter, and egg until combined. Gradually pour this mixture into the dry ingredients, stirring with a spoon or spatula.

Add the remaining flour, one cup at a time, mixing until a soft dough forms. You might not need all the flour, so add it gradually.

Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.

Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place until it has doubled in size, about 1-2 hours.

Once risen, punch down the dough and turn it out onto a floured surface. Divide it into 12 equal pieces and shape each piece into a ball.

Place the dough balls in a greased 9x13 inch baking dish, leaving a little space between each one. Cover the dish again and let the rolls rise for another 30-45 minutes, or until puffy.

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Bake the rolls in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until they are golden brown on top.

Remove the rolls from the oven and brush the tops with melted butter. If desired, sprinkle sea salt flakes on top for an extra touch.

Serve warm, and enjoy the soft, buttery goodness!
