Sopapillas are a beloved dessert originating from Latin American countries, particularly in regions with strong Mexican and Spanish influences. Ingredients

2 (8 oz) cans of crescent roll dough

2 (8 oz) packages cream cheese, softened

1 cup granulated sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/2 cup powdered sugar (for drizzling)

Honey (for drizzling, optional)

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.

Unroll one can of crescent roll dough and lay it flat at the bottom of the greased baking dish, pressing seams to seal.

In a mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, granulated sugar, and vanilla extract. Beat until smooth and well-blended.

Spread the cream cheese mixture evenly over the crescent roll layer in the baking dish.

Unroll the second can of crescent roll dough and lay it over the cream cheese mixture, similarly sealing the seams.

In a separate bowl, mix the melted butter with ground cinnamon. Brush the cinnamon butter mixture over the top layer of crescent dough.

Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until golden brown and bubbly.

Once baked, allow to cool slightly. Drizzle with powdered sugar mixed with a bit of water until it reaches a drizzleable consistency and optionally, drizzle with honey.

Slice it into squares and serve warm or at room temperature.
