Ingredients

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 cup granulated sugar

1 tsp baking powder

1/2 tsp salt

1 1/2 cups whole milk

1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1 tsp vanilla extract

1 cup brown sugar, packed

2 cups hot water

Ice cream or whipped cream for serving (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Prepare Baking Dish: Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish with butter or non-stick spray.

      Make the Batter:

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt. Whisk these dry ingredients until well blended.

          Add Liquid Ingredients:

Gradually pour in the milk and the melted butter while stirring gently to combine. Add the vanilla extract and mix until the batter is smooth.

              Pour into Dish:

Pour the batter into the greased baking dish evenly. DO NOT stir the batter after this point; the chocolate layer will form itself.

                  Cocoa and Brown Sugar Mix:

In a separate bowl, mix the cocoa powder and brown sugar together. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the top of the batter. It will create a rich chocolate layer as it bakes.

                      Add Hot Water:

Carefully pour the hot water over the entire dish. This may seem unusual, but it’s essential for creating the cobbler’s gooey texture. Do not stir.

                          Bake:

Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 35-40 minutes or until the top is set and the edges are slightly crusty. The middle may appear bubbly, which is perfect.

                              Cool and Serve:

Once baked, remove the cobbler from the oven and allow it to cool for a few minutes. Serve warm, topped with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for an extra indulgent treat.
