Before diving into the preparation of your cake batter, it’s essential to preheat your oven. Set the temperature to 350°F (175°C). Proper oven temperature is critical for baking success; if your oven isn’t hot enough when you place the cake inside, it may not rise correctly, affecting the texture and appearance of your cake. Preheating also helps to ensure that your cake cooks evenly.

Ingredients

1 box of chocolate cake mix (15.25 oz)

1 cup of water

1/2 cup vegetable oil

3 large eggs

1 cup fresh strawberries, diced

1 cup powdered sugar

8 oz cream cheese, softened

1 cup shredded coconut (optional)

1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 teaspoon salt

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking pan with non-stick spray or line it with parchment paper.

Prepare the Cake Batter: In a large mixing bowl, combine the chocolate cake mix, water, vegetable oil, and eggs. Mix with an electric mixer on medium speed for about 2 minutes until well combined.

Pour the Batter: Pour half of the cake batter into the prepared baking pan, spreading it evenly.

Add Strawberries: Sprinkle the diced strawberries evenly over the cake batter, ensuring they’re distributed throughout.

Prepare the Cream Cheese Mixture: In another bowl, beat together the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and salt until smooth. If using, fold in the shredded coconut and chopped nuts.

Layer the Cream Cheese Mix: Drop spoonfuls of the cream cheese mixture over the layer of strawberries. Gently swirl it into the batter using a knife for a marbled effect; do not overmix.

Top with Remaining Batter: Pour the remaining half of the chocolate cake batter over the top, spreading it evenly.

Bake the Cake: Place the cake in the preheated oven and bake for 40-45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Cool and Serve: Once baked, allow the cake to cool in the pan for about 20 minutes. Serve warm or at room temperature, optionally topped with whipped cream or fresh strawberries.

Enjoy: This cake can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days, and the flavors will continue to meld beautifully!
