Ingredients

1 cup all-purpose flour

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1 tsp baking powder

1/2 tsp baking soda

1/4 tsp salt

1/2 tsp ground cinnamon

1 large egg

1/2 cup buttermilk

2 tbsp melted butter

1 tsp vanilla extract

1/4 cup maple syrup (for glaze)

1/2 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)

1/4 tsp salt (for glaze)

Optional: Additional cinnamon or sprinkles for topping

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a mini muffin pan or donut hole pan.

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and ground cinnamon until well combined.

In another bowl, beat the egg, then add the buttermilk, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth and combined.

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined. Do not overmix; a few lumps are okay.

Using a spoon or piping bag, fill each cavity of the greased pan about 2/3 full with the batter.

Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let them cool in the pan for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

While the donut holes are cooling, prepare the maple glaze. In a small bowl, whisk together the maple syrup, powdered sugar, and salt until smooth.

Once the donut holes are completely cool, dip each one into the maple glaze, allowing the excess glaze to drip off.

For an optional touch, sprinkle some additional cinnamon or colorful sprinkles on top while the glaze is still wet.

Allow the glaze to set for a few minutes before serving.
