2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 cup unsalted butter, softened (2 sticks)

3/4 cup granulated sugar

3/4 cup packed brown sugar (light or dark)

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

2 large eggs

2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

1 cup chopped nuts (optional, walnuts or pecans work well)

Instructions
 

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.

    In a small bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.

      In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and vanilla extract using an electric mixer on medium speed until the mixture is light and fluffy (about 2-3 minutes).

        Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition until fully combined.

          Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined. Avoid over-mixing to ensure chewy cookies.

            Fold in the chocolate chips and nuts (if using) with a rubber spatula until evenly distributed.

              Using a tablespoon or a cookie scoop, drop dough balls onto the prepared baking sheets, leaving about 2 inches of space between each cookie.
