2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1 cup packed light-brown sugar

1 teaspoon salt

2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract

2 large eggs

2 cups semisweet and/or dark chocolate chips

1 cup chopped nuts (optional, walnuts or pecans)

Flaky sea salt (for sprinkling on top)

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper and set aside.

    Combine Dry Ingredients: In a small bowl, whisk together the flour and baking soda. Set aside.

      Cream Butter and Sugars: In a large bowl, using an electric mixer, beat the room-temperature butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and salt together on medium speed until light and fluffy (about 2-3 minutes).

        Add Vanilla and Eggs: Beat in the vanilla extract, then add the eggs one at a time, mixing on low speed until fully incorporated after each addition.

          Incorporate Dry Ingredients: Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter mixture, mixing on low until just combined. Do not overmix!

            Fold in Chocolate Chips: Gently fold in the chocolate chips and nuts (if using) with a spatula until evenly distributed throughout the dough.

              Scoop the Dough: Use a cookie scoop or spoon to drop tablespoon-sized balls of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart to allow for spreading.

                Sprinkle Sea Salt: Lightly sprinkle flaky sea salt on top of each dough ball for an extra flavor boost.
