Ingredients

4 cups all-purpose flour

1 packet (2 ¼ teaspoons) active dry yeast

1 cup whole milk, warmed

½ cup granulated sugar

½ cup unsalted butter, melted

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon salt

1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

1 cup packed brown sugar

½ cup raisins or pecans (optional)

1 cup powdered sugar (for icing)

2 tablespoons milk (for icing)

1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for icing)

Instructions

Prepare the Dough: In a large bowl, combine the warm milk, yeast, and 1 tablespoon of sugar. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.

Mix Ingredients: In the same bowl, add the melted butter, remaining sugar, eggs, and salt. Gradually add the flour, stirring until a soft dough forms.

Knead: Turn the dough onto a floured surface. Knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.

First Rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Prepare Filling: In a small bowl, mix brown sugar and cinnamon. Set aside.

Roll Out Dough: Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface into a rectangle (about 16x20 inches).

Spread Butter: Brush the rolled-out dough with melted butter, leaving a small edge around the edges. Then sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly over the surface. Add raisins or pecans if using.

Roll Up: Starting from one long side, carefully roll the dough tightly into a log. Pinch the seam to seal it.

Cut Rolls: Slice the log into 12 equal pieces. Place them in a greased 9x13 inch baking dish.

Second Rise: Cover the rolls with a cloth and let them rise for another 30 minutes.

Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Bake: Bake the rolls for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown.

Prepare Icing: Whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla in a small bowl until smooth.

Glaze Rolls: Once the cinnamon rolls are out of the oven, drizzle the icing over them while they're still warm.

Serve & Enjoy: Allow to cool slightly before serving and enjoy the delicious gooey goodness of your homemade cinnamon rolls!
