Ingredients

2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1 cup unsalted butter, softened (2 sticks)

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1 cup packed brown sugar

1 teaspoon salt

2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract

2 large eggs

2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

1 cup chopped nuts (optional, walnuts or pecans work great!)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking.

Mix the Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour and baking soda. Set aside.

Cream the Butters and Sugars: In a large mixing bowl, with an electric mixer or stand mixer, beat the softened butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and salt together until creamy and fluffy (about 2-3 minutes).

Add Eggs and Vanilla: Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Then, mix in the vanilla extract until well incorporated.

Combine Wet and Dry Mixtures: Gradually add the dry mixture to the butter-sugar mixture, mixing just until combined. Do not over-mix, or the cookies will be tough.

Fold in Chocolate Chips and Nuts: With a spatula or wooden spoon, fold in the semi-sweet chocolate chips and chopped nuts, ensuring they’re evenly distributed.

Scoop the Dough: Using a cookie scoop or tablespoon, drop rounded balls of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving about 2 inches of space between each cookie to allow for spreading.

Bake the Cookies: Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the centers are still slightly soft (they will continue to set as they cool).

Cool on the Baking Sheet: Remove the cookies from the oven and let them cool on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Enjoy! Once cooled, grab a cookie (or two) and enjoy the warm, gooey, chocolatey goodness!
