Ingredients

12 oz mozzarella cheese sticks (string cheese)

1 cup all-purpose flour

2 large eggs

1 tablespoon water

1 cup seasoned breadcrumbs (or Panko for extra crunch)

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

Salt and pepper, to taste

Vegetable oil, for frying

Marinara sauce, for dipping (optional)

Instructions

Prep the Cheese Sticks: Freeze the mozzarella sticks for at least 1 hour, or until they are very firm. This will help prevent them from melting too much during frying.

    Set Up Your Dredging Stations:

      - In a shallow bowl, place the flour. Season it with a pinch of salt and pepper.

        - In another bowl, whisk the eggs and water together until well combined.

          - In a third bowl, combine the seasoned breadcrumbs with garlic powder, onion powder, Italian seasoning, and a little salt and pepper.

            Coat the Cheese Sticks:

              - Take each frozen mozzarella stick and dip it first into the flour, making sure to coat all sides evenly.

                - Next, dip it into the egg mixture, allowing any excess to drip off.

                  - Finally, roll it in the breadcrumb mixture, pressing lightly to ensure it adheres well.

                    - For an extra crunchy coating, repeat the egg and breadcrumb process (double-dip) for each mozzarella stick.

Heat the Oil: In a deep skillet or pot, pour enough vegetable oil to cover the bottom and heat it over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can test the oil's readiness by dropping in a few breadcrumbs; they should sizzle upon contact.

Fry the Sticks: Carefully add a few coated mozzarella sticks to the hot oil, frying them in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry for about 1-2 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crispy. Keep an eye on them, as they can burn quickly!

Drain and Serve: Remove the sticks with a slotted spoon and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

Enjoy: Serve your crispy mozzarella sticks hot with marinara sauce for dipping, or enjoy them on their own!
