Ingredients

4 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for kneading

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast

1 cup whole milk, warmed to about 110°F (43°C)

1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted, plus additional for brushing

2 large eggs, at room temperature

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (optional, for flavor)

1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional, for warmth)

Instructions

Activate the Yeast: In a small bowl, combine the warmed milk, sugar, and yeast. Stir gently and let sit for about 5-10 minutes until foamy.

Mix Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together 4 cups of flour, salt, garlic powder, and nutmeg (if using). Make a well in the center.

Combine Wet Ingredients: Add the melted butter, eggs, and the yeast mixture into the well of your dry ingredients. Stir until a shaggy dough forms.

Knead the Dough: Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes, until smooth and elastic. You may need to add extra flour if the dough is too sticky.

First Rise: Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover it with plastic wrap or a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.

Shape the Rolls: Punch down the risen dough gently to release air. Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces and shape each piece into a smooth ball. Place them in a greased 9x13 inch baking dish or on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

Second Rise: Cover the shaped rolls with a towel and let them rise again for about 30-45 minutes, or until they puff up.

Preheat the Oven: While the rolls are rising, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Bake the Rolls: Once risen, bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown on top. Remove from the oven and brush with additional melted butter.

Cool Slightly: Allow the rolls to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before serving. Enjoy them warm or at room temperature!
